Melanie Montgomery Brannan lives in her paintings, moving around and getting lost in a serene place. With her creative talent, she captures emotions on canvas as her paintings evolve through her own personal perspective. Influenced by light, clouds and reflections, Melanie uses layers upon layers to create a great deal of depth and movement in her paintings. Colors and perception beautifully touch her work. Her favorite type of art is impressionism, with Cezanne and Van Gogh among her favorite artists.
Melanie paints with her heart as much as her brush. As she moved from a long, prolific career in graphic design to specializing in fine art, she experienced some personal challenges unrelated to her art. Through a painful transition, she has risen above the hurt and hardship and found peace through painting. She expresses her personal strength with every brush stroke.
The transition is apparent in her current series, “Serenity,” which she has been working on for the past year and a half. Each piece is representational of her creative spirit. If you look carefully, you might experience an ethereal feeling of peace in the paintings, which include “Undercurrents,” “Rise Above It All,” “Serenity,” " Dream Came True" and “In My Head,” among others. The “Serenity” series is her place of peace.
“CowBelle” is an ongoing series of whimsical paintings that Melanie plans to continue creating for many years to come. She received a magazine in the mail with a close head shot of a cow on the cover. Fascinated with the image, she started painting it, over and over. It turned out to be a happy cow named “CowBelle,” and a happy place to be when she was painting it. Now “Belle” appears in different scenes. So today, there is “Bluebonnet Belle,” “Texas Bar Belle,” “Belle Is A Hottie,” and the merry new “Jingle Belle,” with many more “Belles” to come!
Melanie grew up in the Deep South, earning a BFA from Louisiana Tech University. She has spent her adulthood in Dallas, Texas, where she owns a farm in nearby Aubrey. There she rides horses and spends time with Odie, a rescued German Shepherd. She loves wide, open spaces.
